An emphasis on a compassionate understanding in a non-judgemental environment.
I am a registered psychologist in Newfoundland and Labrador and hold a doctorate in clinical psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California (2005). I’m a member of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), including its Sexuality and Gender Identity and Indigenous Psychology Sections, as well as the American Psychological Association, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and the Canadian ADHD Resource Alliance.
I’ve been licensed in California since 2007 and have extensive experience helping people in different settings, such as community mental health centres, forensic services, and private practice.
My areas of practice include mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, substance use, ADHD, and problematic relational patterns. I offer therapy for individuals, couples, and those in non-traditional relationships. I have advanced training in the Gottman Approach for relationship therapy and use neuroscience-based techniques to help people heal and connect. I also perform assessments for ADHD and for people preparing for gender-affirming surgery.
I’m passionate about yoga, fitness, and dance. I’m obsessed with podcasts and love to learn about languages and cultures. I’ve enjoyed great wine while living in California, loved the cuisine while living in Mexico, and now experience some of the best skiing of my life when visiting Marble Mountain, in Corner Brook. Of all the places I’ve lived, I’m so proud to now call St. John’s, Newfoundland home.
Approach
Empowering clients through an emotion-focused framework.
My approach to therapy is feminist, relational, and emotion-focused. I aim to support, challenge, and empower my clients. I believe that understanding patterns learned early in life can help change how we see ourselves and relate to others now.
By being compassionate, curious, and kind towards ourselves we can counteract negative messages that we may have absorbed.
This ongoing practice allows us to understand and appreciate what makes us unique, opening the door to more joy, meaning, and connection.
